Blowers are used for aeration in water treatment plants. Roots blowers or side channel blowers are used in aeration systems supplying air to bacteria in bio-filters or sewage storage basins. Roots blowers are used when working at greater depths and for larger water treatment plants. Side channel blowers are used at shallow depths. Small water treatment plants use oil-free rotary (carbon vane) compressors. Vacuum pumps are used to pump out waste or contaminated water.
